J.A. Taylor (ON 1891 – 1893)

 

John (Archie) Taylor was a farmer’s son from Roxby in Lincolnshire. He went on eventually to Edinburgh University to study Medicine and took the post of Medical Officer in Uganda in 1908. In 1923 he became Chief Medical Officer and Surgeon to the Sultan of Zanzibar. He was awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star in 1929 ; ” …since his arrival in this Protectorate Dr Taylor’s efforts have been untiring in the cause of medical and sanitory improvement; and I suppose there is hardly a soul in these Islands who has not at sometime derived some benefit from the result of his transcendent energy, tact and skill”.  J.A.Taylor died in England in 1965.
